Save the Children Breaks With Soda Tax Effort

 Excerpt:

"In interviews this month, Carolyn Miles, chief operating officer of Save the Children, said there was no connection between the group’s about-face on soda taxes and the discussions with Coke. A $5 million grant from PepsiCo also had no influence on the decision, she said. Both companies fiercely oppose soda taxes."

If this isn't COMPLETE bullshit, I have NO IDEA what is! Growin' up in the hood, kids in my hood had/have easy access to cheap junk food yet not to healthy, vitamin-enriched food. For example, my little cousin used to be an ordinary, skinny kid. Now, he's morbidly obese wit' diabetes @ the age of 22, goin' on 23. This is a horribly systemic problem, b/c McDonald's is ridiculously easily affordable to Americans, esp. those hit hardest by the recession. Our country has soooooooo many systemic problems which need to be radically reformed ASAP. This is but one of them. It's really sad b/c you would think that Save the Children would be a forerunner in something like this, but they just proved that they care more about donations than the welfare of the children they were supposedly fighting for. THAT is the saddest part about this to me......
